Atmosphere:
Occupying a moderately busy corner of Polk and Union
streets, this small, simply decorated restaurant with
dark-wood floors and cream-colored walls is one of the
city's best trattorias. Service is attentive and
professional and the restaurant offers a nice wine list.
Italian wines dominate and at these prices, a bottle should
be on every table.
The Food:
The menu of primi (appetizers) and secondi (main courses)
changes regularly. Appetizers might include a
puree-of-potato-and-vegetable soup seasoned with bacon or
delicate slices of beef carpaccio enhanced with capers,
arugula, mustard and Parmesan shavings. The reasonably
priced main dishes might include a savory monkfish wrapped
in pancetta, potatoes and wild mushrooms or a perfectly
grilled pork tenderloin with Gorgonzola, crispy pancetta and
polenta.
